Did The ‘Infinity War’ Super Bowl Trailer Show Us Our First Look At Captain Marvel’s Proper Suit? – ScreenHub Entertainment

By Sebastian Sheath

(Disclaimer: this post contains potential spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War, which will premiere on 27 April. Alos, none of this should be taken as fact, it is all purely speculation)

Late last night we saw our second look at Avengers: Infinity War and while it was only thirty seconds long, we get plenty of new footage and maybe even our first look at Captain Marvel in her gold, red, and blue suit! In this post, I will be breaking down what we see in the trailer and speculating as to what it may mean for the MCU.

Wakandan Warriors

There would seem to be a lot of reaction, both negative and positive, to Captain America’s new shield that was originally revealed in toy form and now on-screen (top left). Presumably temporary, this shield is obviously a Wakandan technology that will get replaced after this showdown with the outrider army. It would, however, seem that Cap is not the only one with a new outfit and tech. As can be seen in the above frames, Scarlet Johansson’s Black Widow and Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier also have Wakandan suit and tech upgrades.

The Guardians Of The Galaxy

While most of the footage of the Guardians in the trailer is to be expected (top), the bottom two frames have something more to say. In the bottom left frame, we see Karen Gillan’s Nebula, on Earth, fighting with the Avengers against Thanos. While this is unsurprising, it does confirm that the two groups will meet in the movie (if they hadn’t they would have in Avengers 4). Finally, and most confusingly, we see a teenage Groot at the place of the space-octopus battle we saw in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. The only reason they might be returning here is to recruit Elizabeth Debicki’s Ayesha’s help in defeating Thanos.

Iron Man’s Eye-Patch

One stand-out, obvious feature, is Iron Man’s eye patch. There are two possibilities here: Iron Man loses an eye or it is some sort of technology to let him see something he would otherwise be unable to do. I do, however, doubt it is the later, as he would likely just incorporate it into his suit’s helmet. Also, unless, as in the Thor trailer, the lost eye has been edited out, we have not seen any sign of a lost eye in any of the other footage.

And Finally…

Finally, Captain Marvel. If you look very carefully in the left frames, just under Cap’s shoulder, a golden, blue, and red star can be seen at the crest of someone’s suit. It is difficult to see in the above pictures (also, it sort of looks like Scarlet Witch), but at the 12-second mark in the video, it can be seen very clearly to be someone walking, obscured behind Captain America. This not only confirms that Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel will star in Infinity War (presumably in a Spidey-like introduction before her solo movie), but she will don her classic suit from the comics.

This, in turn, also confirms that the set pictures we got earlier this week (right) are from the 90s storyline and, while she will have her green suit for the majority of her solo flick, she will likely don the red, blue, and gold suit near the end as an official introduction to the MCU, the Avengers, and likely S.H.I.E.L.D. (as they will likely provide her with the suit).

To add to this, the location would suggest that, before Cap and his team go to Wakanda for the Outrider battle, all of the Avengers meet up at the Avengers tower to organise the plan, possibly after the discovery of the Guardians of the Galaxy. I am excited to see the full suit, hopefully with the modern haircut in the MCU.
