According to George R. R. Martin, author of Game of Thrones, casting is underway for the first Game of Thrones prequel (The Long Night). He wrote on his blog on October 30:
Jane Goldman scripted the LONG NIGHT pilot and will be running the show. She and her team are busy in London right now, neck deep in casting, and I [Martin] expect some more names will be announced soon.
In this post, I will be explaining the Long Night and keeping it updated with all the latest news and information. Though it has now been released that that is not the official title in a post a few days ago in which he says:
Oh, I should also mention… HBO has informed me that the Jane Goldman pilot is not (yet) titled THE LONG NIGHT. That’s is certainly the title I prefer, but for the moment the pilot is still officially UNTITLED.
Which indicates that, though the topic will remain the same, the title may change slightly. I will, however, continue this post assuming that the topic will still remain the same as the release and it will only be the title that strays from The Long Night.
What is ‘The Long Night’
The Long Night is a period of time when a terrible darkness fell across the entirety of the Known World. It occurred during the Age of Heroes about 8,000 years before Aegon’s Conquest and during a great winter that lasted for an entire generation. The show, however, will most likely follow the descent of man from the Age of Heroes into its darkest times with the start of The Long Night.
We will likely see the origin of the White Walkers as well as their first attack on Westeros (leading to the building of the wall at the end of The Long Night). It should also mean that we get to see more giants as well as the children of the forest and even some creatures we have not yet seen on screen (such as wights).
The only members of the cast that have been announced are Naomi Watts (Birdman, King Kong) and, more recently, Josh Whitehouse (Valley Girl, Poldark). The only information we have so far is that Watts will be in a leading role as ‘a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret’. We should be getting more information on this soon and I will update this post as soon as we get more news.
Sorry or the short post but I will be updating it regularly with the latest news and updates (so like our facebook page, follow our twitter, or follow us by email below to be updated). Anyway, I hope you liked this post and be make sure to check out some of our other content at Screenhub Entertainment like my post speculating on what the other 5 prequels could be and my post explaining, in depth, the Blackfyre Rebellion.
