‘Becoming’ – Michelle Obama: Believe The Hype, This Is An Incredible Read! – ScreenHub Entertainment

This book has quite simply blown me away. If you fancy a read which will blow your mind with inspiration, and achievement, this book is definitely the one for you.

I first discovered what an incredible lady Michelle Obama was back in 2011. When I watched her give a speech at Oxford University, which was followed by a question and answer session. I remember her being so wise, warm, friendly, likeable, and she gave incredibly honest advice to women on many subjects from education to love. So when I found out her memoir Becoming was coming out, I was one eager lady to read it and soak up even more of her wisdom, knowledge and life experiences.

Born Michelle Robinson on 17th January 1964, she grew up in the South Side of Chicago, Illinois. Michelle graduated from Princeton University, she went on to study at Harvard Law School, and then she started her career at a Chicago Law Firm, Sidley and Austin. It was here where Michelle met her future husband, Barack. Whom she wed in 1992. They went on to have a family, two daughters, Malia and Sasha.

I could not put Becoming down, it was as great as I imagined it would be. Powerful, inspiring, honest, wise, humorous. Michelle possesses a unique, powerful voice for women and girls everywhere. Her advice is from her own experiences. Her hard work is proof you can achieve anything. She believes in women’s strength and raising strong daughters. She also shows in the pages a vulnerable side, weakness, and she gets personal.

Michelle was the United States first lady from 2009 to 2017. The first African American family in the White House. Michelle was a rock-solid strength of support for her husband, Barack, when he became the President of the United States. Naturally, Michelle talks politics, and Donald Trump does come up, which we all have our own opinions on I am sure. Of her time as the First Lady, it’s refreshing to read not only the highs but the lows as well. Which Michelle does in her warm, witty, storytelling way. It is just beautifully well written.

“Your story is what you have, what you will always have. It is something to own.”

– Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama is truly one of the most inspiring ladies of our time. All the hype and attention this book has had has very much lived up to all expectations I had. It’s very easy to see why it has instantly become a number one best seller. The story of Michelle’s life, from her childhood in Chicago to the White House, and beyond. She also talks, amongst many other subjects, motherhood, marriage, race.

The tone on the subjects covered is brutally honest. Michelle certainly doesn’t hold back. She talks about how she thought Barack would not win the Presidency. Michelle had a miscarriage and discusses how it affected her, and how she dealt with it. We discover what hurt Michelle in actions and words.

I can easily give Becoming five out of five stars. I felt refreshed and uplifted after reading it. My advice is, read it, read it, read it!

I will say though I think ladies will get more from this book than gentlemen. It’s a read for the ladies, of all ages. But I would especially recommend it for ladies in their twenties, as what a perfect role model Michelle is for ladies starting out in their adult lives, with careers, marriage, children.

Oprah Winfrey has picked Becoming to be in her hugely popular book club. Oprah has said that she loves it, and she has read it twice. She laughed, she cried. “You find out what you wanted to know, and what you didn’t realize you wanted to know,” Oprah said. Michelle is a good friend, but Oprah makes it clear she would still have loved Becoming whether they had a friendship or not. Oprah also gave, what I thought was a wonderful idea, if you are in a book club, get the ladies together and read it all together. Get the power of women’s minds discovering, learning and experiencing this book for the first time as one group. One incredible experience indeed.

Simply this book is a must. Get yourself a copy, and get ready to enjoy what for me, is the book of the year. I fully understand why Oprah read it twice! You learn so much from its pages, and a tear or two may easily be shed, you will laugh out loud in places too! It has a bit of everything. Get ready to be inspired!
