Who Is Marrok In ‘Ahsoka’? Three Theories – ScreenHub Entertainment

Well, our Marrok theories went up in smoke, nothing to see here!

Ahsoka introduces audiences to three new Force-wielding antagonists for our heroes to contend with. We have some understanding of Skol and Hati, the two Dark Jedi with orange lightsabers, but a third mysterious Inquisitor is also brought into the narrative. Dave Filoni likely wouldn’t go through the trouble of introducing a new character just to act as the muscle of the show when there are two Dark Jedi already and the return of Thrawn. So, who is this Marrok? We have three possible theories.

Galen Marek

I’ll put a 30% chance that Marrok is in fact Galen Marek, aka Starkiller from The Force Unleashed video games. The reason for this is superficial, but you’ll notice the similarities between the two names. Also, Filoni once considered putting Starkiller in Rebels as an Inquisitor. In the games, Marek was Vader’s secret apprentice, so having two apprentices of Anakin being in conflict with each other makes thematic sense. If he is Starkiller though, I would imagine he’d be heavily nerfed in terms of power levels, as in the games he’s over-the-top strong in the Force, whereas Marrok seems competent but not god-tier.

Barriss Offee

I’ll say there’s a 20% chance that Marrok is Barriss Offee. She was the Jedi Padawan and friend of Ahsoka during The Clone Wars who ultimately became jaded and disillusioned with the war and ultimately framed Ahsoka for murder and treason. While the truth came out and Barris was arrested, we don’t know what actually happened to her post-Order 66. Her radical shift in politics would make her an ideal candidate for the Inquisitorious and she has unfinished business with Ahsoka. But I’m not 100% sure, something about this seems like it would be anti-climactic, especially for those unfamiliar with The Clone Wars. Which leaves the final choice.

Ezra Bridger

I’ll put down a 50% chance that Marrok is Ezra Bridger, the Jedi padawan who warped into parts unknown with Thrawn. I think the chief clue lies in the name. In Arthurian legend, a knight named Marrok is mentioned in passing in Sir Marrok: A Tale of the Days of King Arthur as “the good knight that was betrayed with his wyff, for he made hym seven yere a warwolff“. In other words, he was a wolf man. Ezra has a deep connection to the Lothwolves, as seen in Rebels and Filoni loves wolf symbolism. Marrok becomes a werewolf thanks to Irma, who is working for Morgan Le Fay, a powerful magic user. I don’t think there’s a coincidence at all that Morgan Elsbeth shares a name with Morgan Le Fay here. My guess is that Ezra has been corrupted against his will to become an agent of evil and his message to Sabine in Rebels, that he’s counting on her, likely means he’s counting on her to bring him back to the light. With Ezra established in the opening episodes, casual audiences will be able to tag the name without it coming out of left field. The only kink in the theory is how is Ezra back in the Star Wars galaxy and Thrawn remains in exile. My only guess is the World Between Worlds is playing a role here, which is only accessible to Force users.

Update: I noticed that during the Star Wars logo fanfare at the front of the episode, Marrok’s helmet is shown in a blue light. Per tradition, heroes are shown in blue lighting during the fanfare while villains are in red. While not confirmation, it does suggest that Marrok isn’t sinister by nature.

But those are my guesses for the identity of Marrok, who do you think they are, if anyone? Let us know!
