Grammy award-winning comedian Bob Newhart has passed away at the age of 94.
Bob Newhart was a quiet man with a long shadow in the comedy business. Though he started as an accountant, he quickly became well-known for his deadpan standup comedy.
In 1961, he won three Grammys for his comedy album, The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart. He rose to national stardom with his starring role on sitcoms like The Bob Newhart Show (1972-1978). Newhart cemented his comedic legacy with more recent roles in Elf (2003) and his cameo appearances in The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon.
Newhart’s publicist announced his passing, saying he died on Thursday, July 18th, 2024, in Los Angeles, California. He is survived by his four children and ten grandchildren. He will be remembered by the many friends and comedy colleagues that he worked with and inspired.
