Big news for Linkin Park fans was revealed on Thursday. The iconic Nu Metal/Alternative Rock band is back with a new album, a new tour, and some new bandmates. Following a series of cryptic social media and a mysterious 100-hour countdown, fans got their first look at the re-formed rock group with a new energy and a classic sound.
This new chapter in the story of Linkin Park looks to bring something new while still honoring the history of the band. The new lineup includes a new drummer, Colin Brittain (All Time Low), and a new co-lead vocalist, Emily Armstrong (Dead Sara). They will be joining original band members Mike Shinoda, David Farrell, guitarist/co-producer Brad Delson, and DJ/visual director Joe Hahn.
The live-streamed concert opened with something fans have waited seven years for, a brand new Linkin Park song. The band played the heavy new single, titled The Emptiness Machine, from the upcoming album From Zero. The song showcases the vocal talents of Emily Armstrong and her synergy with Shinoda. Maria Sherman from The Associated Press said Armstrong’s performance “comfortably continues the band’s legacy: Her full-throated vocals recall Bennington without attempting parody.”

When asked about the future of Linkin Park. Dave Farrell told Billboard Magazine that he expects some “hard touring in 2025” and after that “if it keeps going as it has, I’d be very excited to reinvest and see what our next steps are”. Emily Armstrong added, “I feel like there’s more, and that it’d be cool to continue.”
Linkin Park has been on hiatus since the death of original co-vocalist Chester Bennington in 2017. His death, revealed to be a suicide after a long battle with depression, was a stark reminder of the importance of mental health. Following Bennington’s passing, the band wasn’t sure if they should or even could go on. Thankfully, with some new blood and a reinvigorated frontman/producer, Mike Shinoda, it looks like they’ve found a way to move forward while still honoring the memory of their friend.
