[Updated] TikTok Is Back (For Now) – ScreenHub Entertainment

Update: TikTok appears to be working again for many American users. The latest message states, “Welcome back!” and cites their return as “a result of President Trump’s efforts.”

Original story follows.

American users woke up this morning to find that their Tiktok account is no longer working. This is because of a new US law which bans the social media platform in the country.

The parent company of Tiktok, ByteDance, was given until January 19th to sell off the company, which it did not do. In a rare display of bipartisan, both Republicans and Democrats voted in favour of this bill, citing their concerns over National Security due to ByteDance’s ties to the Chinese government.

Currently, Americans cannot download Tiktok on Apple or Google’s Play stores, as the law would result in the companies being $5000 per user. Considering there are 170 million US users, do the math.

President-elect Donald Trump has indicated he would give ByteDance an extension of 90 days to sell off the company, stating it would be “appropriate”. Users who open Tiktok will be greeted by a message that includes the statement, “We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office.”

Naturally, this change affects ScreenHub Entertainment, as beyond the blog and podcast, we also have a unique presence on Tiktok that offers users other content outside of those two mediums. But if you follow us there, you can pivot to some of our other social media platforms, which include:

Bluesky, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Clapper. We’ll update you with any changes to our output, as well as the general news story should there be any changes.
