Despite some recent controversies around Helldivers 2 thanks to Sony imposing its PSN service on PC users, the sci-fi live-service shooter game continues to be one of 2024’s most popular titles. While the comparisons to Starship Troopers and The Terminator have been obvious and justified, many in the fanbase have also wished for a bit more Star Wars flair as they fight for Super Earth. So it’s probably good news then that Toasted and his mod team have gone right ahead and modded such a feature into the PC version.

Instead of a faceless soldier fighting for Super Earth in Helldivers proper, this mod swaps your democracy-spreading warrior for a clone trooper from the prequel Star Wars films. There’s some familiar faces around too, such as Captain Rex and Commander Cody to choose from, while the automaton enemies in the original game will now look like various battle droids.

Fans will have to wait a while to actually play this mod, however, as it’s currently unavailable to download due to technical issues. Creator Toasted Shoes posted on his X profile “Right now the mods don’t work consistently across all planets and difficulties so we want to iron out the kinks before dropping them”. However, if you want a 501st legion clone trooper skin, that’s totally available at this moment over at Nexus.

Modders always seem to find clever and impressive ways to spice up their favourite base games and now those communities are going to start making Helldivers 2 their own. Who knows what we’ll see next? Will this be like Skyrim where Thomas The Tank Engine will swoop in to cause all kinds of mayhem? Anything is possible and we can’t wait to see where this will go.
