On Sunday, the Golden Globes kicked off Hollywood’s award season with a bang. There is no question that a win can give any film or show a big boost in buzz. While the actual cultural value of these industry awards has been debated, we at ScreenHub Entertainment are happy to say that one of our favorite shows of 2024, Shogun, has won big this year. So, what exactly did Shogun win at this year’s Golden Globes?

Best Supporting Actor, Tadanobu Asano

Shogun’s Tadanobu Asano played the mercurial (and often scheming) Japanese lord Kashigi Yabushige. His nuanced performance of a noble trying to survive amid the turbulent political realities of ancient Japan earned him the Golden Globe award for best performance by a male actor in a supporting role.

Best Female Actress, Anna Sawai

One of the most powerful performances in Shogun was from actress Anna Sawai. She won Best Performance by a female actor in a Drama Series for portraying Lady Toda Mariko. Anna’s carried a depth and intensity that we rarely see, even in these days of “prestige TV”.

Best Male Actor, Hiroyuki Sanada

Hiroyuki Sanada is no stranger to American screens, having appeared in blockbusters such as The Wolverine, Mortal Kombat, and John Wick 4. His Golden Globe win for best performance by a male actor in a television series – drama came with a powerful message to younger actors, “never give up.” Sanada has already won a primetime Emmy award for his portrayal of Lord Yoshii Toranaga on Shogun.

Topping off a night of big wins, the cast and creators of Shogun had one last chance to celebrate on stage. They were awarded the highest accolade that a drama series can get, the Golen Globe for Best Television Series — drama. Shogun co-creator Justin Marks accepted the award and provided a charming anecdote from his home life.

“Yesterday, Rachel and I were scouring the ferns of our house looking for a 50-pound tortoise that we adopted for some reason that keeps escaping”
