2024 Reviewed: The Best Movies According To Our Writers – ScreenHub Entertainment

It’s hard to avoid if you, like us, read about movies like a priest reads his bible verses: 2024 is not considered to be a ‘great’ movie year. The obvious reason is that the international blockbuster is failing rapidly. Most of the time, movies are barely able to break even, apart from the few exceptions like Deadpool & Wolverine and Wicked that were able to revive our hopes. Other than that, studios are quick to pull the trigger on half-baked stories and sequels, thus lacking in originality. That being said, it’s easier for us to find good material because we remain curious. We surf on all the streaming platforms, we go to theatres, we rent and we buy movies every year. So yes, even if 2024 was not the greatest cinematic year in recent memory, there are diamonds in the rough…you just need to look harder. My personal favourite is actually a French film (available with subtitles) that is a new take a literary classic: The Count of Monte-Cristo is a ‘must’ for all you great romantics with a thirst for the epic period piece.

Here’s what I can recommend this year, at least from what I was able to see!
