What Went Wrong With ‘Annihilation’? – ScreenHub Entertainment

(Disclaimer: this post contains spoilers for Annihilation and for The Southern Reach trilogy that the film was based on) Earlier this week, the film adaptation of Jeff VanderMeer’s Southern Reach Trilogy dropped worldwide on Netflix having only gone through cinemas in China, Canada, and the USA when Paramount sold it to Netflix after predictions that it wouldn’t make enough money as it was ‘too intellectual’. This at … Continue reading What Went Wrong With ‘Annihilation’? – ScreenHub Entertainment

From Creature From The Black Lagoon To The Shape of Water: Evolution of the Creature Feature – ScreenHub Entertainment

Back in 1996, I sat down and watched an old worn out VHS tape. The film on the tape told of a crew descending into the Amazon to hunt a mysterious aquatic beast, a quest that takes them to the very heart of fear. It was called Creature From The Black Lagoon, and it was my first horror film. The mysterious gill man haunted my … Continue reading From Creature From The Black Lagoon To The Shape of Water: Evolution of the Creature Feature – ScreenHub Entertainment

‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ Teaser Is Here, My Thoughts – ScreenHub Entertainment

When the first Fantastic Beasts film came out in 2016, I expressed my enjoyment of the film overall but criticized the overall tone and story structure. The main plot, which saw Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander hunt down missing beasts in 1926 New York felt weak and uninspired. Remember that Central Park scene? I wish I couldn’t. But the film was set against a much more interesting B plot, one full of dark wizards, infiltrators and dark magical and it looks like that’s where the magic will happen in the film’s sequel, Crimes of Grindelwald. Warner Bros unveiled a teaser trailer today and the film looks much more like something out of the Wizarding World than the first one ever did!

‘You Were Never Really Here’ Spoiler-Free Movie Review – ScreenHub Entertainment

Based on Jonathan Ames’ novel, Lynne Ramsay (We Need To Talk About Kevin, Ratcatcher) delivers a thoughtful and silently emotional movie. Not for the faint-hearted, You Were Never Really Here obviously draws from films such as Drive (2011) and Taxi Driver (1976) but manages to be original and interesting with hard-hitting violence that is not overly visual. The film premiered worldwide yesterday having completed the festival circuit, was written and directed … Continue reading ‘You Were Never Really Here’ Spoiler-Free Movie Review – ScreenHub Entertainment

‘Star Wars Rebels’ Comes To An End, What It Means, And The Show’s Legacy – ScreenHub Entertainment

After four seasons, Star Wars Rebels came to a close. And what a finisher it was. For an animated television series on Disney XD, it had the production value and thrills of a blockbuster film. It also didn’t help that the network aired three episodes as the last hoorah, making it roughly an hour and a half of Rebels in one go. It definitely felt like what you would expect for a Star Wars finale, full of temptation, conflict and resolution. So how did the series fair overall? In this article, there’ll be spoiler talk for season 4 and its finale, as well as the series as a whole. Let’s get into it!

Spielberg’s ‘Halo’ TV Series Sets Filming Date – ScreenHub Entertainment

Remember back at E3 2013 when Microsoft announced a live action Halo TV series for it’s Xbox platform? Yeah, you’ll be forgiven if you forgot about it, or for that matter, never heard about it. Are Netflix And HBO Providing A Home For Intellectual Science Fiction? – ScreenHub Entertainment

Over the past decade, intellectual science fiction films have been few and far between. The last decade has seen some noteworthy attempts, from Inception in 2010, to Looper and Her in 2013 and 14, and Ex Machina and Arrival shortly after. In the last year, however, Blade Runner 2049, directed by Arrival Director Denis Villeneuve, underperformed at the box office, leading many Hollywood executives to believe that more challenging … Continue reading Are Netflix And HBO Providing A Home For Intellectual Science Fiction? – ScreenHub Entertainment

Why ‘Alien: Isolation’ Is One Of The Best ‘Alien’ Sequels – ScreenHub Entertainment

It can be easy to say the time for the Alien saga has come and gone. While the success of the first two showed potential for a lucrative series, every film since has proven either divisive or underwhelming, and diminishing box office returns do little to spark confidence. However, it was not three years before the release of Alien:  Covenant that the series produced an … Continue reading Why ‘Alien: Isolation’ Is One Of The Best ‘Alien’ Sequels – ScreenHub Entertainment

Opinion: Why Kylo Ren Should Survive The Events Of ‘Episode IX’ – ScreenHub Entertainment

Spoilers ahead for The Last Jedi

In January 2018, Empire Magazine made a list of the greatest movie villains of all time. The big bads were all there, including Darth Vader, Voldemort, Joker and Hans Gruber. What surprised a lot of people though is that the relevantly new villain, Kylo Ren, who is the primary antagonist in the current Star Wars saga, came in at number seven. With the recent announcement of the home video release dates and production set to begin on Episode IX in the next few months, now seemed like a good time as ever to talk about the future of Kylo Ren.
