New Star Wars Trilogy In Early Development At Lucasfilm – ScreenHub Entertainment

Deadline reported today that a new Star Wars trilogy is in the works over at Lucasfilm. Simon Kinberg, best know for his work writing The X-Men films Apocalypse, The Last Stand, and Dark Pheonix, as well as being heavily involved with Star Wars Rebels, will write and produce the films.

Sources close to Deadline dispute if the films are episodes 10-12, which would continue the Skywalker Saga, or if they’ll be a completely new trilogy with new characters. Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy will produce the films alongside Kinberg, per the story, but have not commented on the news.

Once again though, Lucasfilm find themselves announcing projects far too early, in my opinion, and considering the track record of projects being cancelled or talent leaving, I just can’t get excited for this news knowing there’s a good chance it’ll never see the light of day. Just a few weeks ago, Steven Knight left the Rey film, joining a rather shocking long list of creatives who have left a galaxy far, far away due to “creative differences”. Considering the release states that Kinberg will write the films, this means there’s no scripts yet.

Stay tuned for more info as it comes.
