Updated: ‘The Adventures of Cliff Booth’ Begins Production- ScreenHub Entertainment

Update 2: The film, now officially titled The Adventures of Cliff Booth (contrary to the below update), is now in production in L.A. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, JB Tadena and Corey Fogelmanis have joined the production.

Update: In a Deadline interview with Michael B. Jordan for Sinners, Mike Fleming Jr. revealed he’s heard the film is to be called The Continuing Adventures of Cliff Booth and will see Brad Pitt’s titular character working as a Hollywood studio fixer, much like Eddie Mannix was. We’ll update this article accordingly as more information comes out.

In what could’ve easily been mistaken for an April Fool’s joke, we have word that there is to be a sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Only this time there’s a twist.

Where Tarantino wrote and directed the original 2019 film for Sony, the sequel is doing to be a Netflix production and will be directed by David Fincher, who has a first-look deal with the streamer. Tarantino is still involved, though; he’ll be working on the screenplay of the film, which is rumoured to be a heavily modified version of his cancelled 10th project, The Movie Critic. This time, though, the titular critic may be Brad Pitt’s dog-loving, maybe wife-killing Cliff Booth, who assumes the lead role this time around. Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton isn’t confirmed at this point.

Tarantino may be best known as a writer/director, but he has passed his scripts off to other directors in the past. Some examples of this include True Romance, directed by Tony Scott; Natural Born Killers, directed by Oliver Stone; and From Dusk Till Dawn, directed by Robert Rodriguez.

Having Cliff become a movie critic isn’t such a crazy spin for the character, as the novelization of the original movie featured a lot of extra details not seen in the film, such as Cliff being a huge cinephile. So once he leaves Rick’s employ as his double/driver, becoming a film critic isn’t such a crazy idea.

The still untitled project, which was initially revealed by The Playlist, will reunite Fincher and Brad Pitt, who worked together on Se7en, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. They also state that Netflix is fast-tracking the film to start filming this July, so we’ll likely be getting updates on the cast and plot sooner than expected. Here’s hoping the film will get some form of limited theatrical release as well. Netflix tends to do this with some of their films, but it’s not a guarantee.
